Google Tools You Might Not Know

Re-posted from TCEA (Texas Computer Education Association) TechNotes 11.06.12

It seems like the folks at Google never sleep as they are continually adding new features and resources to Googledom. Here are just a few that you may not have heard about:

  • Learn more about human anatomy with the Zygote Body simulation from Google Labs. Tools allow you to see muscles, bones, organs, and more.
  • Google Correlate finds search patterns that correspond with real-world trends. (Try the sample search for “mittens.”)
  • Google provides resources for computational thinking throughout the K-12 curriculum.
  • Teach Parents Technology was built by a few folks at Google to help support parents (as well as students, teachers, and beginning users) with basic computer use. It is technical support via video tutorials.
  • Use the Google Chart Editor to create simple or complex charts and graphs and share them with others.
  • Google Earth Engine brings together the world’s satellite imagery – trillions of scientific measurements dating back almost 40 years – and makes it available online with tools for scientists, independent researchers, and nations to mine this massive warehouse of data to detect changes, map trends, and quantify differences on the Earth’s surface.
  • Be amazed with what you can discover in Google Sky.
  • Have your students use What Do You Love to discover new information about hobbies they may have.

Do you have any other lesser-known Google tools to add to this list? Let us know in the comments!
