Celebrating 40 Years in Educational Technology

Questeq recently celebrated 40 years, and we wanted to share a brief history of our humble beginnings to where we are headed in 2023 and beyond.

Ron Main started his business venture in 1983 as 2econd Childhood Computer Workshoppe. He and his two partners specialized in retail sales of computers and gaming software. Classes were offered in computer literacy, basic programing and software. 2econd Childhood was one of the first networking specialists in the greater Pittsburgh area that sold and supported Novell, Televideo Most, Unix, AT&T Starland, Lantastic and MS Windows. The customer base spanned every sector including education, libraries, physicians, wage tax offices, police departments, legal, accounting firms, bakeries and government offices. The name “2econd Childhood” was used because Mr. Main felt the business venture’s excitement felt as such.

Fast forward to 1998 when Lynda, Jeff and Jessica Main joined the company and the focus turned to managed technology services and the previous partners left. Jeff Main was named CEO and took the leadership role in building and refining the vision of what our Educational Technology Management (ETM) service would look like in the coming years under the new name – Questeq.

Questeq in the 1990's

In 2010, there was a shift in vision that placed resources into three main sectors: K-12 education, health care and public libraries. Due to the growing technology needs in K-12 education, Questeq made investments in sales, operations and marketing that allowed the company to scale very quickly. Questeq doubled in size, to 120 employees and expanded throughout western and central Pennsylvania.

Questeq in the early 2000's

Since 2019, the commitment to K-12 education strengthened and we continued to grow our customer base to central and eastern Pennsylvania. We have provided much-needed support to our school districts and our growing list of CTC customers across the state. Throughout the pandemic our K-12 customers were faced with many challenges as they quickly had to support their students’ learning at home. Many needed to provide 1:1 computing environments essentially overnight. Our technology teams maintained superior levels of service and rose to meet those challenges head-on.

In 2023, we are gearing up for new opportunities as we look to support the changing needs of our current customers and continue to grow as a company. Questeq has grown steadily to over 200 employees across the state of Pennsylvania and we aren’t done yet.  Our plan includes expansion of our customer base into eastern PA, western NJ, and southern NY. Questeq has made a big push to expand our operations team to continue to innovate and develop our company-wide services, strategies, and initiatives.

Big things are ahead for Questeq this year. We will continue to provide the best technology management solutions to our customers and an exciting company culture that our employees can rally around.

Thank you to all our customers and employees for joining us on this adventure for the last 40 years. We could not have accomplished any of our successes without your support and dedication. Cheers to many more years of collaboration and technology innovation!
